May, 2010 - Mokon's line of Iceman Portable Chillers has been expanded with a new unit that offers from 1/4 ton up to 40 tons of cooling capacity in both air-cooled and water-cooled designs. These new chillers meet process cooling requirements to 5°F (-15°C). The addition of the 40-Ton portable chiller to Mokon's Iceman line is in response to feedback received from customers.

The main feature of the new 40-Ton portable chiller is its tandem compressor arrangement that provides a flexible and energy efficient design solution to ever-changing process cooling requirements. This design offers users the option to run the chiller at 50 percent if loads do not require the full 40 tons of cooling. Another main element of the 40-Ton chiller is its Carel uC2 microprocessor-based controller that is specifically designed for chiller applications and provides compressor anti-cycling and lead lag. This feature ensures equal run time and extended life of the two compressors.

The Iceman 40-Ton system also features scroll compressor technology and its benefits of smooth, quiet operation and the ability to tolerate liquid slugging during shutdown of the compressor. Refrigerant and process fluid loops are constructed of non corrosive materials, including a stainless steel brazed plate evaporator. Both are standard features in a Mokon Iceman portable chiller.

Mokon's selection of R-407C refrigerant, as of January 2010, provides customers an environmentally friendly refrigerant and comes standard on the complete line of Iceman portable chillers ranging from 1/4 ton to 40 tons for process cooling requirements down to 20°F (-7°C). 	January, 2010 - Mokon’s Full Range process temperature control system offers a combination heating/chilling system in one convenient package. These units are ideal for applications including jacketed vessels, reactors, multiple-zone processes, laboratory, sanitary, food processing, chemical processing, and other processes that require both heating and chilling. 	December, 2009 - Mokon announces their redesigned Blown Film Air Coolers that offer improved performance, energy efficiency and reduced space requirements. This new compact design features an air inlet diffuser that creates a more uniform airflow across the cooling coil and decreases delta temperature approach. In addition, the leaving air chamber is insulated to reduce condensation while providing the coldest air possible to the air ring.
The BFC Series offers an increase in blown film productivity, especially in warmer climates or environments where ambient air temperatures rise during the summer, by eliminating production variables in air ring supply, including air temperature, pressure and volume. Models are available in sizes from 600 CFM to 7,500 CFM. The overall design provides for long life, durability and accurate air ring process control. 	July, 2009 - Mokon offers an expanded Hydrotherm circulating water temperature control system line for heating capacities up to 24 kW. The Hydrotherm is now available in standard heating capacities from 3 to 24 kW, ratings from 208 to 600 volts, pump sizes from ½ to 3 hp and flow rates from 15 to 60 gpm. The addition of the 18 and 24 kW systems provides users with a comprehensive product line in the Hydrotherm design. The expanded line offers a slightly larger cabinet allowing for higher capacities, energy-saving automatic high/low heat selection for the 18 and 24kW designs, additional options and larger casters for easier portability. While many systems are available in carbon steel or cast iron, only Mokon provides the Hydrotherm with stainless steel components for wetted surfaces, including a stainless steel pump, heater canister and pump suction manifold.
The Hydrotherm is available with an E+ Energy Savings Package that includes:
• Insulated heater canister which reduces heat loss by 60% • 4-20 mA PID control to match output to process demand • SCR switching for faster response and extended heater life • Forced ventilated cabinet to extend electrical component life
To improve serviceability, the heaters are easily removed from the back to allow tool access. The number of fasteners has been reduced to minimize service time and the front casters have been moved toward the back of the cabinet to stabilize the unit. The Hydrotherm features hybrid-epoxy powder coated cabinetry with a 14 gauge base and 16 gauge electrical enclosure. Mokon’s unique energy-efficient heating design utilizes low watt density heating elements and a two-pass stainless steel heating canister via a flow diverter. The result is a small hold-up volume, turbulent flow and water channeled over the heating elements to enhance the heat transfer efficiency and extend the heater life. In addition, the Hydrotherm also features an operator-friendly and easy-to-use microprocessor-based controller to deliver precise temperature control. The Hydrotherm systems meet NFPA 79 electrical safety standards for industrial machinery and also come equipped with UL labeled electrical sub-panels. Extended warranties include: three years on the system, five years on microprocessor controller and safeties, and lifetime on seals, piping and canister. April, 2009 - As a global provider and part of Mokon's green-friendly initiative, we are now offering R-407C refrigerant in our line of Iceman portable and central chiller systems for North America and global business opportunities. R-407C is an environmentally-friendly refrigerant that contains no ozone-depleting properties.

Mokon's selection of R-407C is based on a refrigerant that has similar properties, characteristics and pressure ratings to that of R-22 and also has one of the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) values, which may be governed by the Environmental protection agency in the near future. R-407C has been the accepted refrigerant in Europe for many years, due to its reliable performance, compatibility and non-chlorine containing properties.

With the mandated phase-out of R-22 by the United States government in January 2010, the operation of existing chillers with R-22 will become more costly due to limited production supplies after 2010 and will only be available for use in servicing pre-existing systems. The use of R-407C will not require major component changes or system overhauls when retrofitting our existing line of Iceman portable and central chillers. A change of compressor oil, evacuation, review of component capacities, and a re-charge with R-407C will be all that's necessary for start up, making R-407C the accepted R-22 replacement refrigerant.

Mokon offers a complete line of Iceman portable chiller systems for process cooling requirements down to 5°F (-15°C). Mokon's line of portable chillers is available from 1/4 ton up to 35 ton cooling capacities in air-cooled or water-cooled condensing. In addition, combination heating and cooling systems, dual circuit capacity control systems from 10 tons to 40 tons, and outdoor air-cooled scroll systems are also available. 	January, 2009 - Mokon announces the availability of power and process control panels and systems for commercial and industrial applications. Typical features available on Mokon control panels include: UL and cUL listed sub-panel; ESA electrical approval and CSA compatibility; NFPA 79 electrical standards; UL 508, NEC, and CEC standards; CE Mark and directives compliant; NEMA rated enclosures for hazardous and non-hazardous locations; and local or remote panels. 		August, 2008 - Mokon announces the availability of the newly redesigned HF-2 Series Heat Transfer Fluid System, updated with improved performance, energy efficiency and reduced space requirements for large flow and higher heating capacity applications. The system provides accurate temperature control up to 600 degrees F. The HF-2 Series features a 12 kW heater canister mounted in the traditional Mokon "horizontal forced fluid flow" design, proven in Mokon systems for over 50 years. This heater design, along with an all-welded construction, reduces internal piping and limits potential leak points. The system also features Mokon's unique "continuous flow" cool oil reservoir design to ensure accurate and safe process temperature control and cooling.
Mokon's HF-2 Series systems are available in single and dual zone configurations, pumping capacities of 40, 60, 90, and 120 gpm, and various heating capacities up to 144 kW. 		February, 2008 - Mokon's new C3 Cold Climate Cooler System offers a cost-effective solution to process cooling in cold weather areas. The system uses ambient air temperature to cool fluid in a closed loop system that requires no make-up water or expensive chemical treatments. The C3 system is available with cooling capacities up to 140 tons and flow capacities up to 390 gpm. The chillers are available from 10-ton capacities and larger. "The C3 Cold Climate Cooler System saves water and energy and is environmentally friendly," says Jeff Mallon, sales manager for Mokon. "The system also extends the life of your chiller. During cold weather, you can turn off your chiller and use the Cold Climate Cooler."
The overall design provides for long-life and durability. The only moving parts are the fans. Quality and craftsmanship can be found throughout, such as noncorrosive construction and the incorporation of side access panels for easy coil inspection and cleaning. The C3 system is available in multiple sizes and configurations with a variety of pumping capacities. All of these features and more in an energy-efficient design. 		October, 2007 - Mokon now offers the Iceman Dual Circuit Scroll Series Portable Chillers, featuring a tandem compressor arrangement for dual circuit capacity control. The Dual Circuit Scroll Series, with its flexible, energy-efficient design, is ideal for a variety of applications with varying cooling load requirements, or when future growth is planned and only a portion of the chilling is needed today. The tandem design provides down to 10% of overall capacity for smaller applications, offering greater efficiency. For larger applications requiring more capacity, both circuits work together to meet the need of the process. The Dual Circuit portable chillers are available in 10 to 40 ton cooling capacities.
Mokon's Dual Circuit Scroll Series is equipped with a Carel microprocessor based controller, providing anti-cycling and staging control with system status and safety/alarm conditions. 		April, 2007 - Mokon announces the availability of a full line of Heat Transfer Fluid Systems with a seal-less magnetic-drive pump option for the HTF 500 (up to 500F) and 600 (up to 600F) Series. For a period of three years, the starter, low pressure shut off switch, motor, contactors, heater bundle/elements, cooling valve and any components not specifically listed are guaranteed to be free of defective materials and/or workmanship. August, 2006 - Mokon announces UL labeled electrical sub-panels on its complete line of products, making it the first company in the circulating liquid temperature control systems market to offer this as a standard across its product offering. The UL label denotes all Mokon products as built to nationally and internationally recognized safety standards.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) scientifically investigates and tests products to evaluate their safety and has played a key role in the development of safety systems in the United States since 1894. Through this procedure, UL helps manufacturers such as Mokon bring safer products to the marketplace.

Mokon has always had a commitment to safety and quality, which includes building equipment to NFPA 79 standards, using NEMA rated enclosures, meeting or exceeding SPI guidelines for circulating liquid temperature control systems and using UL listed parts in product construction. 		October, 2006 - Mokon announces a line of cooling towers to complement its existing circulating liquid temperature control systems, portable and central chillers. Two types of cooling towers are provided, constructed of either rugged galvanized steel or state-of-the-art HDPE plastic. Both designs are built to withstand nature's elements and are CTI certified. Available from 10 tons of cooling capacity up to 500 tons, all models offer energy-efficient all-season reliability, dependable service, and minimal maintenance. All galvanized cooling towers feature an induced-draft, cross flow design that saves on fan and pump power. The galvanized steel structure and framework offer corrosion-proof protection. These towers feature an energy-saving gravity flow water distribution system and a unique nozzle design for precise distribution over the PVC film fill. Backed by a multi-year warranty, Mokon's galvanized towers are equipped with various connection options to meet specific installation needs and drift eliminators to limit the escape of water droplets.
The high-density polyethylene cooling towers include forced-draft (up to 100 tons) or induced-draft (100 tons and larger) designs. These towers feature a PVC water distribution system and fill material to facilitate even water distribution and high-efficiency cooling, with non-corrosive materials that extend component life. The seamless one-piece plastic shell provides a lightweight, yet durable tower that resists rust and corrosion. It incorporates a joinless leak-proof sump that does not require re-caulking or sealing, and an air moving system incorporates a fully enclosed motor to drive the fans or blower.

 

		October, 2006 - Mokon announces the availability of its Outdoor Air-Cooled Central Chillers designed for exterior installation, freeing up valuable indoor equipment space. They are available from 10-ton up to 500-ton capacities. "The Outdoor Air-Cooled Central Chiller Systems provide a space-saving cooling solution," says Jeff Mallon, sales manager for Mokon. "Each chiller features the most advanced microprocessor chiller control technology and components to provide users with the highest degree of accuracy and ease-of-use."
Mokon Outdoor Central Chillers are compact, 100-percent factory wired and have easy lifting provisions for trouble-free installation. They are factory tested and arrive on site in complete working order, eliminating extended or challenging start-up. Increased reliability and lowered life cycle costs are achieved via a simple design, and optional control interfaces also are available. The chillers deliver service accessibility, convenience and several user options. Each model is designed for an outdoor ambient temperature of 0 to 115 degrees F and features an air-cooled condenser with direct drive vertical condenser fans. 		November, 2006 - Mokon introduces a new standard microprocessor-based controller for its complete line of circulating water and heat transfer fluid temperature control systems and portable chillers. This operator-friendly and easy-to-use 1/16 DIN controller from Eurotherm provides accurate and reliable process control and offers the end-user more advanced features. The controller offers a dual LCD display, which indicates the set point and actual fluid temperature. The advanced PID overshoot protection with self-tuning capabilities provides increased accuracy. The controller accepts Thermocouple, RTD and mA input for in-process sensor input and read flexibility. It is configurable to unique process requirements with scrolling text messages for easy viewing of system functions and safeties.
The controller also features tactile push buttons for ease of operation and parameter password security for tamper-proof operation. A NEMA 4 faceplate offers wash down capability. The controller will provide freeze stat protection standard for portable chiller systems and auto air purge for water and heat transfer fluid systems. There are optional 1/8 or 1/4 DIN controllers available, with high/low deviation alarm, remote set point and retransmission and serial communication. A five-year warranty comes standard with the controller. The economical 1/16 DIN microprocessor controller offers several benefits, including programmable soft start, promoting energy efficient operation; an automatic or on demand (adaptive) self-tuning function for outstanding programming capability; and advanced cooling algorithms to optimize cooling.

 

		December, 2006 - Mokon announces the integration of the microprocessor-based Carel uC2 controller into their Dual Circuit Portable Chillers and Single Circuit Central Chillers and Carel pCO3 controllers into their Dual Circuit Central Chillers. Both controllers are designed specifically for chiller applications and reach their process temperature with ultimate control performance. "The microprocessor-based Carel controllers provide extreme accuracy in an operator friendly fashion," says Jeff Mallon, sales manager for Mokon. "Each controller offers a number of features designed to meet the user's specific needs."
The Carel uC2 features a LED readout of set point and process fluid temperature. It also offers universal symbol indication for modes of operation, capacity control of compressors and condenser fans, built-in delay and safety functions, multi-level security access, Metric or English units, and is European RoHS compliant. The Carel pCO3 microprocessor-based controller with pGD display offers an advanced programmable microprocessor control package designed to provide high-level temperature control performance to chiller applications. The controller features programmable LCD touch screen display with graphic industry standard symbols that indicate modes of opeation and system performance. The pCO3 controller has multiple digital or analog signal input and output capabilities, flexible interfacing communication to host or network, up to four serial communication ports and the ability to control field devices, such as VFDs, via serial communication. It controls the chiller's capacity with anti-recycle, automatic compressor lead/lag control, operation of condenser, pumps and alarm devices. It also features a real time clock with a running hour meter that logs compressor run time. It has multilingual capabilities and is European RoHS compliant.

 

		December, 2006 - Mokon announces their line of pump tanks is now offered in stainless steel construction as standard. The stainless steel pump tanks are specifically engineered for integration with Mokon central process water chillers, cooling towers, or existing cooling water systems and are available in a wide range of capacities. Mokon's stainless steel all-welded pump tanks offer long-life, corrosion-resistant performance. The tanks feature high-efficiency, close-coupled, non-overloading centrifugal pumps designed to meet process and refrigeration requirements for optimal flow and pressure. Pump suction and discharge piping trim are sized appropriately, eliminating excessive pressure drop while maximizing flow to the process. Low pressure and low level shut-off switches provide overall protection to the tanks' pumps and motors.
All Mokon pump tanks include a NEMA 12 electrical junction box that facilitates a single-point electrical connection and protects electronics against dust and other harmful debris. Pump suction legs are angled to prevent vortexing and pump cavitation, allowing for lower-level operation that economizes water and chemical usage. Fill, overflow and dual-drain connections are provided on the complete pump tank line. A suction butterfly valve streamlines maintenance by enabling pump replacement without draining the tank. Stainless steel strainers prevent debris from entering pumps for trouble-free service. Sight glass with safety rods aid in easy water level monitoring, and a ball check is included to prevent the tank from emptying upon unlikely sight glass breakage. Liquid-filled pressure gauges ensure accurate pressure reading for flow adjustment. A reinforced steel-structure deck adds rigidity and improves maintenance, and is available with a slip-resistant or diamond plate surface that improves safety. Tank covers are provided to prevent contamination and evaporation and 1/2-inch thick insulation is provided on chiller pump tanks to keep tank from sweating. Mokon pump tanks are available with optional features including: a NEMA 4 electrical enclosure; an enclosed cooling tower control for single-point interface; high temperature and low flow alarms; a make-up valve; a discharge check valve; and OSHA-approved ladders, rails and toe boards(for elevated tanks).

 

		When a manufacturer of mixers was looking for a solution for an accurate temperature control system, it turned to Mokon. Due to the demand for accurate temperature control during the mixing process, it was determined that a system offering multiple zone control was necessary. Mokon’s 3-zone circulating water temperature control system not only provided an efficient and accurate manner in which to control temperatures, but it also allowed for uniform temperatures throughout the mixing process.
Mokon’s system met the customer’s specifications for heating, cooling, and fluid control characteristics. The system was also customized to meet customer specified electricals, control capabilities, physical layout and color. An additional benefit was the size of the system. The customer was able to have a multi-zone temperature control system in one framework, which limits space and resource requirements. Mokon’s multiple-zone circulating water temperature control system includes a 40-gallon tank that supports all 3 zones. Zones 1 and 2 of the 3-zone system are able to provide flow rates of up to 90 gpm at 60 psi via a 7.5 hp motor. These zones also offer heating capacities of 60 kW per zone and a 39.3 sq. ft. heat exchanger for cooling purposes. Differentiating itself from Zones 1 and 2, Zone 3 features a flow rate of up to 45 gpm at a pressure of 60 psi via a 5 hp motor. It has a heating capacity of 15 kW and a 19.6 sq. ft. heat exchanger for cooling. The entire system is constructed in a framework that supports the system’s componentry, including a closed water circuitry that separates the cooling water from the process water. It is also equipped with a custom microprocessor PID control with linear communication capabilities. Non-ferrous (brass, bronze, and copper) plumbing is supplied throughout the system, and a NEMA 12 electrical enclosure is provided to protect the control and motor starter panels against dust and other harmful debris.

 

		When a large snack food processor approached Mokon with a need for a compact unit that provided multiple zone temperature control, the company tapped into its customization expertise to meet these requirements. Building on nearly 50 years of experience in developing high quality circulating liquid temperature control systems, Mokon has provided units to meet the unique needs of process control applications in diverse industries from plastics and die casting to chemical and food processing. The custom water system was required to accurately control the temperature in seven different zones of the snack food processor’s extrusion barrel. “Heat is generated as the screw turns inside the barrel of the extruder and moves the product from one end to another,” explained Rob Brzozowiec, Mokon sales engineer. “The seven-zone temperature control was therefore necessary to maintain a consistent temperature to properly produce the food product.”
In lieu of individual controls for each zone, the customer requested that all seven be controlled from a single location. Major benefits of a single, compact cabinet would include reducing the unit’s footprint and subsequently increasing manufacturing floor space, and having one connection point to the electrical source. In addition, a common supply and drain would require only a single point hook up, thus eliminating numerous bulky hoses around the processing area. Taking the unique application needs into account, Mokon was successful in designing a custom seven-zone water temperature control system, each zone with a ¾ hp motor, a 25 gpm pumping capacity and a 9 kw heating capacity. The unit additionally featured non-ferrous plumbing throughout the system, including a stainless steel pump and impeller and copper and brass plumbing. Remote start/stop capabilities with an emergency stop function and indicator lights for modes of operation were also incorporated into the design. In addition to its National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 79 compliant heater, motor and transformer fusing, and main power disconnect, the custom seven-zone water temperature control system benefits included an operator-friendly design with easily accessed controls for all seven zones, and energy efficiency in the small hold up volume of fluid required by the unit, which translates into better heat transfer. "Our customer has expressed significant satisfaction in the control system’s operation," stated Brzozowiec. "As we are able to provide various configurations, food grade-acceptable coated cabinetry, NEMA 4 or NEMA 4X water-tight enclosures, wash down capabilities, and stainless steel cabinetry, we feel confident in providing many future customized products for the food processing industry."

 

		Mid-American Products, an injection molder of nylon, polyurethane and ABS automotive parts, was in need of additional chiller capacity for its 31 injection molding machines. As a new customer, the company approached Mokon for assistance in developing a more robust custom chiller system. "Mid-American had only recently become a customer of Mokon, having purchased a couple of HTF 350 series heat transfer fluid systems through Manvel Machinery Sales,” stated Rob Brzozowiec, Mokon sales engineer. “Due to the initial exceptional performance of these units, Mid-American felt confident that Mokon could provide a custom solution for a more significant component of its business."
To meet the cooling needs of the 31 injection molding machines, which generated a significant amount of heat, Mokon developed a 1,000-gallon pump tank and 125-ton air-cooled central chiller. The system was designed to supply chilled water to each of the circulating water temperature control systems on the injection molding machines, and each machine’s feed throat and hydraulics for cooling. "The new larger pump tank and central chiller was sized to handle both current and future cooling demands,” explained Brzozowiec. “The unit should provide significant cost savings to Mid-American, which would have otherwise faced an eventual need to upgrade the system." "We couldn’t be more pleased with the increased productivity as a result of the efficient machine cooling that Mokon’s unit has provided," stated Bryan Dixon, Mid-American Products supervisor. Since installation, Mid-American has reported that the custom unit has exceeded performance expectations. The company has additionally purchased a number of Hydrotherm water systems from Mokon.
